The Importance of Particle Counter in Oil Monitoring

Any working system involving hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, engine oil, fuel and other oil media may have particle pollution and hazards. To solve, control or prevent these pollution and hazards, it is essential to regularly check the oil sample pollution index in the fluid system.

Solid particles have the characteristics of wide size distribution and complex shape, and can be dispersed in various units of fluid systems such as hydraulic, cooling, and lubrication, blocking flow channels or damaging motion pairs, resulting in functional failure of key components. In view of this, various fields from military to civilian production have gradually begun to adopt oil particle counting technology on key equipment to detect the status of oil pollution in the system, in order to ensure timely prevention and control of oil pollution.

The key to successful oil monitoring is that the sampling must be representative, that is, there should be a good correspondence between the abrasive particles, oil properties, and pollutants in the oil sample and the oil used in the equipment lubrication system. Ideally, the oil sample should be a "replica" of the oil used in the equipment. In order to obtain representative oil samples, the sampling location, equipment status during sampling, and sampling period should strictly comply with the sampling specifications. The cleanliness of the sampling bottle should also meet the requirements, and external pollution should be avoided as much as possible to avoid errors in testing; Secondly, the accuracy of particle counting largely depends on the correct operation of the particle counter. Only by using the particle counter correctly can counting errors be reduced, data repeatability be improved, and the pollution level of the system be analyzed correctly. This helps to improve the performance and reliability of the system and extend its working life.
