At present, the commonly used instrument for detecting oil contamination is the photoresist particle counter, which provides a fast and accurate particle size analysis method with many incomparable advantages. However, it also has its own limitations: larger particles in the oil will remain in the instrument, and even these pollutants will dry up in the sensor, increasing the difficulty of cleaning and shortening the service life of the instrument; At the same time, it will also affect the accuracy and service life of the instrument detection.
Clever application of backwashing technology
According to the principle of automatic particle counter, oil needs to enter the instrument measurement channel through a pump system or pressure system. When pollutants flow unidirectionally with the oil, due to the narrow sample slit of the measurement unit (usually with a diameter of less than 500 μ m and a maximum of no more than 1mm), the types and shapes of pollutants are complex and diverse. For example, high-density particles may settle in a certain part of the channel due to gravity; Hard particles with elongated shapes may become stuck; Fluffy pollutants may obstruct and attach new particles, accumulating more and more; Failure to clean the sensor channel in a timely manner after testing high viscosity samples, and the formation of an oil film after the residual liquid dries up... All of these situations may cause instrument blockage.
Experience has shown that when offline instruments become clogged during experiments, the pressure effect of the self-priming pump will weaken. During testing and sampling, changes in internal system pressure can cause backflow after injection, insufficient sampling pressure can cause bubble interference, and a decrease in injection volume, leading to inaccurate testing. It is usually possible to determine whether the instrument has been clogged by counting results that are too small or by reverse pumping phenomena; Online detection can be made by observing phenomena such as a small count or a decrease in outlet flow rate when external pressure stabilizes.
When the instrument is blocked, you can try changing the flow direction of the liquid for backwashing operation to flush out the residual or stuck blockage in a certain channel. After backwashing, most instrument blockages can be resolved, which is helpful for system maintenance, preventing system jamming, and extending service life. By using an automatic particle counter system for backwashing, the accuracy of oil sample contamination detection can be improved, the operating environment of the instrument can be improved, and the service life of the particle counter can be extended.
